The Plight of Night
I. Invocation
Let night not be my plight.
Why doth demons delight.
Let night return to solace.
May she quiet all the voices.
II. The Curse
A mother lay awake to an infant cry
And another rocks her sorrow until her face is dry.
A father burdened by the weight,
pleads that he would catch a break.
Fear has become my quilt.
Sleep has become my guilt.
Assaulted as she sleeps, her nightmares come alive.
The night was meant for peace, but now we just survive.
III. The Blessing
May the night remember its creator.
May each doubt know that He is greater.
May your tears turn this night to streams of joy,
And may angels to your bed employ.
May the sheets that wrap you in
whisper of the Christ who’s clothed in skin.
May the lids of your eyes take the weight from your heart.
May the night once again be ruled by the light.
IV. Benediction
The Spirit hovers, darkness bows.
May His rest find you now.
Soft as mercy, sweet as grace,
I pray this night you see His face.
